Effect of Media , Plant Growth Regulators , and Hot Water Treatment on Rooting of Stem and Root Cuttings in Ardisia spp .

Abstract
Effects of rooting media, plant growth regulators, and hot water treatment on the rooting of stem and root cuttings of Ardisia japonica and A. crenata were investigated to develop as new ornamental pot plants for indoor use. For A. japonica, rooting of stem cuttings was significantly promoted and inhibited when cuttings were propagated in vermiculite and peatmoss or media containing peatmoss, respectively. For A. crenata, stem cuttings failed to rooting when propagated in perlite. Rooting of stem cuttings of A. japonica and A. crenata were higher than 88% and 76%, respectively, when rooting hormones were used. For A. japonica, cuttings treated with 200 §·¡¤L^(-1) NAA or 2000 §·¡¤L^(-1) IBA significantly increased the number of roots. Although hot water treatment alone did not increase the rooting of A. crenata cuttings, hot water + IBA 1 % powder treatment greatly increased rooting as 88%. For A. crenate, cuttings treated with 200 §·¡¤L^(-1) NAA significantly increased the number of roots and rooting zone.
Shoot length and the number of roots developed from the root cutting of A. japonica increased by GA©ý and GA_(4+7), and NAA treatment, respectively.
